About Us

Naedl was founded by stepsisters Lilian and Sophie, who share a love of high-quality needlepoint canvases and a fascination with art history. Drawing on curiosities pulled from illuminated manuscripts, medieval marginalia, and other historical ephemera, Naedl creates hand-painted canvases that bring "lost art" back into the modern stitcher’s hands. Our designs have real stories, a sense of humor, and a little bit of weird. Each canvas is designed in-house and painted or printed on Zweigart Mono Deluxe canvas. Our designs are made for both seasoned needlepointers and new craft enthusiasts looking for something unique to stitch.

Meet Sophie

Ten years into her career in tech, Sophie realized she needed to find an outlet for her creativity and love of fiber arts. She applies her experience in business operations, finance and project management to the back-end business of Nædl. Sophie resides in Portland, OR with her husband, 2 kids and dog. Outside of work and needlepoint, you can find her spending time with her family, working on home improvement projects on her old craftsman style home, reading fantasy novels and eating whatever delicious food her husband has prepared.

Meet Lilian

Lilian’s initial career aspirations lay in the academic Humanities, though she always said she should have gone to art school instead. These academic dreams brought her across the Atlantic from Massachusetts to Dublin, Ireland where she now resides with her partner and cat. Although she is now a PhD dropout with a somewhat useless Masters degree, her love of the humanities undergirds her artistic and historical approach to designing for Nædl. When not drawing, painting, or stitching, you can find her back in college part time for interior architecture, doing freelance graphic design, reading, knitting, napping, and other related gerunds.
